Earthen Vessels 2 Corinthians 4:7 [NKJV] "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."
Paul explains in the previous verse this treasure is "the knowledge of the glory of Christ"; the gospel. We have the greatest treasure hidden inside of us, we being the earthen vessels.
Earthen vessels, or clay jars, were a very common thing in Paul's day and were not of very great value. They were fragile and could break just like a dish and were cheap! And Paul likens us to one. A worthy vessel to hold the glory of the gospel of Christ? Definitely not in and of themselves but that's exactly why God has chosen vessels like us. "That the excellence of the power may be of GOD and not us". What a privilege that God has chosen us to be His very own vessels to place His Spirit into and to contain the knowledge of Him.
Paul also says in His first epistle to the Corinthians "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence."
Let's live for the glory of God as His vessels and overflow into the world!
