From Glory To Glory
2 Corinthians 3:18, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
I recently listened to a sermon from the book of Acts. The pastor said that if he could try and give one word to explain the book of Acts that it would be the word “momentum”. The apostles and the early church were moving forward steadily, they were moving out into the world with the gospel message and living lives of true Spirit filled, Spirit led Christians. They were diligent in prayer and were heeding the Word, and were faithful witnesses of Jesus. Any opposition and resistance that they faced was thwarted through prayer and by faith. Through seeking God’s face diligently! It is a book that sets the standard, the example for the church. Sometimes this great example, though meant to be an encouragement, can discourage me when I look at my own life in comparison.
Recently I have been evaluating where I am at and where I am going in my walk with the Lord. I seem to beat myself up too much when I think of how far along I could be in life, or how spiritually mature I could be, or how much untapped potential there is in my life. I think of how I should be something greater, or someone better. But nothing good comes from dwelling for too long on your failure, shortcoming of the past. I constantly have to remind myself that the past is the past and that I can have a glorious future to look forward to. Though sometimes I don’t feel like I have the same momentum in my walk with the Lord as the church in Acts did, I know I can look to the Author and Finisher of my faith to conform me more into His image day by day. Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ”. I am not able to change myself but God is able to change me “by the Spirit of the Lord”.
God’s will for our lives is that we be “transformed into the same image from glory to glory”, that we be continually sanctified and continually grow and mature. Our goal each day is to look more like the image of Jesus, that when people look at our lives they see Christ and not ourselves. These thoughts crossed my mind a couple of days ago and I said to myself, “I would rather be dead than live my life without growing and maturing in the Lord! I would rather not be a Christian than to be stagnant and not be moving anywhere.” That is what life is all about! Growing closer to God each day, loving Him more than you did yesterday. And He is able to do that work in us when we press in, when we really seek His face and take seriously our walks. Too many Christians live their lives comfortably, knowing they’re saved and being content with just that. But I am not content to just be saved, I want to live out the purpose of my salvation which is growing closer to the Savior each day that passes.
Let us look inward at our lives and take account of our growth. Is it even there? Are we barely moving along? Are we going backwards or on a roller coaster ride, up and down? I pray today God would give me the momentum in my life that the church in Acts had and that I would also move forward steadily in my walk, “beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
