Why Worry?

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” - Matthew 6:25-27

According to these scriptures, Jesus tells us not to worry about our life. Really? Can we as humans actually do that?

My husband often refers to me as a "stress ball" because I worry and stress about every little thing and every situation. It can be about something as important as our financial situation or something as silly as what I am going to dress my daughter in for the day. As a wife and mother I have so many responsibilities throughout the day, how can I not worry? Right? Well, regardless of what I think I should be worrying about, Jesus basically tells us that worrying is completely unnecessary. My husband and I and our four children, we have absolutely everything that we could possibly need and more. We always have. Why? Because God has provided it for us.

So why do I continue to worry? Let me be honest, I have no idea! "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (Matthew 6:25). What is worrying going to do for me? Nothing! What I love about the Lord is that he constantly reminds me every single day that He is in control and I am not. So since I am being honest, let me just say that I am also a little bit of a control freak and if you really think about it, what is worrying? Simply put, it is a control issue. It is me, trying to control the uncontrollable. If I am truly trusting in the Lord and His provisions, I would not be worrying. Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

I love this! Are we not more valuable than the birds? Of course we are! He created us in HIS image! He LOVES us! We are His children and He takes care of His children. If Jesus says ...DO NOT WORRY... then we should not waste one minute of our time worrying. He promises He will take care of us and He is faithful to keep His promises.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

So when we begin to worry, let's cling to the promises of our loving and faithful Father. He will supply ALL that we need!
