Trust in the Lord

What is faith? It is having complete trust or confidence in someone or something. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen." As Christians we are to have an unwavering faith in Christ! But that isn’t always the case, is it? Why? Because we are only human. We cannot be perfect. I know for me it is extremely difficult to trust in the Lord when my circumstances are not ideal. But, it is so easy to sing God’s praises when everything is exactly how we want them to be.

We are called to trust in the Lord in the good times and the hard times. This is something that I have been battling with lately; having complete trust and confidence in my Jesus no matter what my circumstances may be. I have known the Lord my whole life. I grew up in a Christian home and I was truly saved as a teenager. I am telling you this because now as an adult, I know in my head how I am supposed to respond in difficult times. I know all the right things to say and I know exactly what the Bible says about faith and trusting in the Lord. My heart knows that the Lord is with me and that He always has been and always will be.

Recently my world has been shaken, and if I am being honest my faith has been shaken as well. My flesh wants so badly to react in anger, to lash out and to justify my actions. I am trying over and over to ignore the Holy Spirit and satisfy my flesh. Thankfully, 1 John 4:4 tells that He who is in us is greater than the he who is in the world. The Lord uses so many things and so many different people to direct us back to His word and ultimately back to Him. Sometimes we need a little nudge. Sometimes we need to be reminded of His faithfulness and just how good our God truly is! That is exactly what God has been doing for me. Each day as I battle my flesh, he brings to remembrance His promises, He brings to remembrance ALL that He has done for my family and I, and He brings people to give me a little nudge back in the right direction.

Having faith isn’t always easy but it’s the foundation of our salvation. If we lose our faith then we lose sight of the bigger picture and what the Lord is trying to accomplish in our lives.

Psalms 13:5-6
But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
I will sing to the Lord
Because he is good to me.
