2 Corinthians 12:9
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
This time of year can be rough. It's generally busy and stressful, with some joy and cheer sprinkled in between. The recent past has been a particularly hard time for me. It just seems like everything is piling up to a point where I think I can't handle it anymore. I get overwhelmed physically and mentally, and usually at the worst times - when I have the most to do. Sometimes it is not until this point that I cry out to God and ask desperately for help. I know that when I go to the Lord first, I usually have a lot more peace going through my day.
1 John 3:22
And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
Regardless of when I go to the Lord, I have found that the He will provide what is needed when it's needed. When I look back at certain periods of my life, I wonder how I possibly could have gotten through any of those situations. I certainly don't have the strength, patience, endurance, etc. to go through those same situations now. But the Lord gave me what I needed at that time. I am no longer dealing with that situation, so I no longer need those same capabilities. He is providing us with what He knows is enough. There are times when I feel like I don't have the energy to do everything I am supposed to do. Even then, the Lord provides by canceling an event, giving me a day off, or even giving my husband the energy to help me. He doesn’t give me the energy because, in His omniscience, He knows I won’t need it.
We can see examples of people within the Bible that the Lord has provided for as well. The one that always comes to mind for me is Gideon and the army of 300. The Lord told Gideon to reduce his army from 32,000 all the way down to a mere 300. Those 300 men may not have thought they had what it took to fight against the Midianite army of 135,000. Gideon and his army were faithful, however, and the Lord provided the strength they needed to defeat their enemy.
Remember that when you don’t think you have what it takes for something you have been called to do, the Lord will provide when the time comes.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
