Proverbs in Practice
Lessons for a Life Well Lived
(June 2023 – Present)
In the previous series, Human Doings, Paradise Calvary Chapel learned about “being” in Christ. The flip side of the coin asks, what does “doing” look like when it’s done God’s way? God’s instruction for good things to do is found in Proverbs, an Old Testament book that is full of “riddles of the wise,” and they can apply very practically to our lives today.
- Part One: The Beginning of Knowledge
The world is full of “proverbs” and sage sayings…but which ones are actually wise? Which ones should we listen to?…Which ones can we even trust? In this opening sermon for a series in the book of wisdom, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares through Proverbs 1:1-7 about the source of true knowledge and understanding. - Part Two: What Is Wisdom?
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom… But what is the fear of the Lord? What is truth? Love? Evil? How does knowledge and action add up to wisdom? In this sermon, Deacon Isaiah Chadwick shares on the complexities of Proverbs 1:7, about how God embodies wisdom itself. - Part Three: Parenting Wisdom
Are you passing wisdom onto others? Do those who look up to you understand that there are consequences for their choices? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares in Proverbs 1:8-33 about the dangers of foolishness, the importance of sharing wisdom, and practical tips for both literal and spiritual parenting. - Part Four: What Do You Want?
What do you treasure? What do you truly value as important? How do those treasures benefit you? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares in Proverbs 2 about the guarantees of safety that we gain when we pursue wisdom as something precious. - Part Five: Risk and Reward
So we ought to be wise–but what benefit do we actually get out of it? And what are the risks of being foolish instead? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares in Proverbs 3 about what both wisdom and foolishness result in when we walk in either of them. - Part Six: Go Get It!
Do you take pursuing wisdom seriously? Do you wonder how to prioritize attaining wisdom? In this sermon directed toward older, wiser men and younger, inexperienced men, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares from Proverbs 4 about pursuing and giving wisdom. - Part Seven: Healthy Relationships
Do you prepared to protect your marriage? Are you aware of the dangers that put relationships at risk? In this sermon directed toward married people, Pastor Timothy Warholic and his wife, Grace Warholic, share from Proverbs 5 about the follies of adultery, pornography, and poor relationship skills that put marriages on the rocks. - Part Eight: Processing
Do the words we choose to use really matter? Do even our smallest actions and decisions have long-term effects? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares in Proverbs 6 about the reality of sowing and reaping. - Part Nine: Sex Matters
Do you understand the dangers of sexual temptation? More importantly, do you understand the reality of God’s love for you? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic and Grace Warholic share in Proverbs 7 about the contrast between the pursuit of pleasure and pursuit of God. - Part Ten: Listen to Wisdom’s Voice
Is the book of Proverbs difficult for you to understand? Have you ever wondered what it sounds like to hear God’s voice? In this sermon, Pastor Tony Monto shares in Proverbs 8 about the personification of “Lady Wisdom” and how she calls to us to listen. - Part Eleven: Wisdom and Folly 2.0
Do you know that there is “worldly wisdom”? Do you understand the difference between what the world says is wise versus what God says is wise? In this sermon, Pastor Larrie Palmer shared in Proverbs 9 about the contrast between worldly and godly wisdom. - Part Twelve: Words, and the Wise
Is there any lasting impact from what we talk about? Is it better to speak our mind, or to hold our tongue? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares in Proverbs 10 about the words of the wise, and the fumbling of fools. Also, the returned mission team shares about their recent trip to Croatia. - Part Thirteen: Integrity and Life
Have you ever been less-than-honest in order to protect yourself or benefit yourself? If we take care of ourselves rather than trusting in and obeying God…are we actually doing more harm for ourselves than good? In this sermon, Pastor Timothy Warholic shares in Proverbs 11 about value of integrity and the cost of dishonesty.

Human Doings:
A Study Through the Book of Galatians
(April 2023 – June 2023)
People have a tendency to swing to one extreme or the other: either to ungodly legalism and control, or to freedom that indulges sinful flesh. Paul’s letter to the churches of Galatians addresses the need to come back to the center: the Gospel is not about what we do or don’t do, but rather who we are in Christ.
- Part One: Human Being, or Human Doing?
Are you burdened with knowing what rules you need to follow to be a good enough Christian? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 1 about the freedom that is lost when we shift our focus onto “doing” rather than “being.” - Part Two: Anathema!
Do you ever question if you are truly saved? Have you ever felt overwhelmed by countless rules that make you feel like you are doomed to fail? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 1 about how the gift of salvation is given with no strings attached. - Part Three: Divine Invention!
How can we tell that the Gospel wasn’t invented by flawed people? How can our testimony reveal that the Gospel is set apart from other faiths? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 1 about how the Gospel is contrary to anything humans could create apart from the divine. - Part Four: The Culture Factor
Do you ever feel pressured in doing things the “right way,” whether by the church or by the culture? Have you been told you aren’t a “real” Christian unless you do certain things a certain way? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 2 about cultural influence, legalistic ritual, and the boldness to confidently say you are saved in Christ. - Part Five: I Pledge Allegiance
What does it mean to be saved by faith? What purpose does the Law have in relation to faith? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 3 about the Greek translation of “faith” and how, while we aren’t saved by works, our faith inevitably invokes action. - Part Six: Be. Family.
What changes when we become children of God? What is different about being a part of God’s family? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 4 about our transition from slaves to adopted heirs. - Part Seven: Do = Flesh, Be = Sprit
What do the works of the flesh look like? Is the Fruit of the Spirit something we are supposed to produce on our own? Pastor Timothy Warholic digs into Galatians 5 about living a life of faith. - Part Eight: Sowing & Reaping
What does it mean to sow unto the Spirit?…And what happens when we sow to the flesh instead? Pastor Timothy Warholic closes this series by digging into Galatians 6 about the consequences of sin, the danger of works, and the benefit of helping one another grow in faith.
