Know > Love > Live
At the heart of our mission are three tenants: to know God, to love God, and to live with God. We want to walk with you through whatever step you are in and take our next ones together!
It’s important to realize that while God loves the world as a whole, He also loves each one of us individually. We need to seek to know God on a personal level and the primary way to do that is through His Word. The more we study the Bible, the more we get to know Him. The church is not an individual though, it is the body of believers that worships God together. God uses our relationships with each other to teach us about Himself. We see the example of the early church in Acts 2:42, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
God displayed His love for us by sending His only Son to die on the cross for our sins. We now have an opportunity to respond to God’s love and reciprocate it back to Him. Can you say that you love God? If you can’t it’s probably because you don’t know Him or you have a false idea of who He is. In the book of Romans it says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We were actively against God, still rejecting Him when Jesus laid His life down. What a demonstration of love.
Live with God
Jesus told His disciples that if they would abide in Him they would bear much fruit. What does it mean to abide? Basically it means to live. If our lives are centered on Jesus we will naturally live in a way that will testify of Him to the world around us. So our desire is to know Him so that we might love Him, and in so doing live abundant lives that declare the reality of Jesus to a dying world. Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Do you have abundant life?
The Bible clearly teaches that God wants us to know Him, and that as we get to know Him our lives are changed by having a relationship with Him. Think about someone you care about; what deepens your relationship with them and makes you closer as friends? How much you know each other, and how much you share in life with each other. What comes from getting to know someone and growing closer to them? Love. You can’t love someone unless you know who they are. The more you get to know someone, the more you can love them.
The next step in the natural process for getting to know someone and growing in love for them is a desire to live life with them. There is a beautiful picture of this in marriage, but it is also shown and reflected in the friendships and relationships we choose to cultivate in our everyday lives.
Now take all of that and apply it to God your Father. He created you in His image and has made a way for you to know Him, and continue to know Him more and more. In fact, He wants you to know who He is! The more you get to know Him the more you will love Him, and naturally you’ll desire to live with Him.
This is a snapshot of our vision as a church. We want to study the Bible together, cultivate our relationships with each other and grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the key to us knowing who God is; He was the express image of God in human form and displayed what true love is by dying on the Cross. Jesus’ sacrificial death allows us access into a real and living relationship with God the Father and the ability to receive redemption and forgiveness for the sins we used to live for.
